2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for this vehicle?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct fob and give you a price before I show up -- no surprises. On arrival I verify ownership, pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb, cut the emergency blade to your vehicle, and use diagnostic equipment through the OBD port to register the new smart key to the vehicle's security system.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Three things: the vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership -- registration or title works. I confirm the VIN on site, which is the same verification any legitimate shop would do. That's it. No pre-visit appointment to establish ownership, no waiting for a parts order to be placed after the visit. I verify and get to work in the same stop.

Q: I replaced the battery in my 2015 Range Rover Sport fob and it still won't unlock the doors. What's going on?

A few things can cause this, and they're not all the fob's fault. First, confirm the CR2032 is seated correctly and the battery contacts aren't bent or corroded. A slightly tilted battery in these fobs can make intermittent contact that looks like a dead fob. If the battery is good and seated right, the fob may have lost its pairing to the vehicle's security system.

Q: Can I buy a fob online and have you just program it to my 2015 Range Rover Sport?

Yes, as long as the fob matches the factory FCC ID for this vehicle -- which you can confirm from the label inside your existing fob. Bring the fob to me or have it ready when I arrive and I can program it. That said, a lot of aftermarket fobs sold online for Land Rover applications are listed as compatible but don't pair cleanly or have reliability issues once programmed. I've seen it.

2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Spring Valley Village on a Tuesday afternoon for a 2015 Range Rover Sport. The owner had one working key and wanted a spare before the rainy season made him regret not having a backup. Reasonable thinking.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait on the part order, plus labor on top, plus a required drop-off. He didn't want to leave a nearly new Range Rover at a dealership for two days over a spare key. I understood that.

I pulled up, verified the VIN, confirmed the fob spec, and got to work on the pavement next to his driveway. The L494 needs proper JLR-compatible diagnostic equipment to register a new fob to the vehicle's security system -- there's no button trick, no ignition sequence. You need the right tools talking to the right module through the OBD port. I had them.

Cut the emergency blade to fit the vehicle, programmed the new fob, walked every function: lock, unlock, the tailgate release, the panic button. Everything responded. Then I handed it to him and had him test it himself, because I don't call a job done until the owner has confirmed it in their own hands.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and the car never left his driveway.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever the vehicle is -- your driveway in Spring Valley Village, a parking lot, your office. You don't move the car at all. This matters more on a Range Rover Sport than on most vehicles, because if you're down to zero working keys, getting it to a dealership means a flatbed.
