Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Buena Creek, Vista, who'd been sitting in his driveway for about two hours. 2014 Range Rover Sport, wouldn't wake up. He'd already done what everyone does: pressed the start button harder, like that helps, then googled long enough to convince himself the immobilizer had failed and he needed a dealer tow.

When I got there, the fob was working intermittently. Sometimes the handles would sense it walking up, sometimes nothing. He mentioned the car had been sitting under a tree for a while and there was a faint musty smell inside. I pulled the cargo area carpet back and found what I expected: moisture had been sitting under there longer than it should have. The sunroof drains had backed up at some point and done their damage quietly.

The module itself was reading, which was good news. The issue was the fob's battery was borderline and the module was struggling to get a clean read on a signal that kept dropping in and out. Fresh CR2032, confirmed solid contact in the housing, then connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and ran through the key enrollment sequence to make sure the fob registration was solid in the system.

Then the real test: walked the doors, checked start, checked all five buttons, verified the handles were waking up on approach the way they're supposed to.

The whole job took about 45 minutes. He didn't need a new module. He didn't need a dealer. He needed someone who knew where to look and came to his driveway instead of making him wait a week for an appointment.
