2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was close to 9 PM on a Saturday in the Border Area, right near San Ysidro. The guy called from a parking lot and his voice had that flat, exhausted tone people get when they've already been dealing with something for two hours.
He had a 2024 Range Rover Sport. Both fobs stopped responding. Not one, both. He'd tried everything he found online. The dealer's service line rang to voicemail. Two other locksmith numbers he called didn't pick up.
When I pulled up, he'd already figured out the emergency blade trick and gotten inside. He was sitting in the driver's seat, fob pressed against the start button the way the owner's manual says to do when the battery dies. The car started that way, which told me the fob hardware itself was intact. The proximity system just wasn't seeing it from any distance.
I asked when he'd last swapped the batteries. He said he hadn't. The car was eight months old and it hadn't crossed his mind. I popped both fobs open, both CR2032 cells were reading low. Not dead, but low enough that the proximity range had collapsed to almost nothing.
New batteries in both, seated correctly, contacts cleaned. Walked the doors, tested the touch sensors on every handle, confirmed the start button was reading the fob from a normal distance again.
That was it. He didn't need a new fob, didn't need programming, didn't need a dealer visit. He needed the right person to show up on a Saturday night with the right small parts and enough sense to check the obvious thing first. The dealer couldn't have done that for him before Monday morning even if they'd answered the phone.
