I got a call from a guy in Fletcher Hills, over in El Cajon, stuck inside a gated HOA community. His 2012 Lexus CT wouldn't acknowledge his fob at all.
Door handles weren't waking up, the start button just blinked at him, and the tow company he called first couldn't get clearance to come through the gate. The HOA had a whole approval process for commercial vehicles, and a flatbed wasn't on the list.

Swapped the CR1632, reseated the contacts, and ran through all four buttons plus the touch-unlock on both front handles. That cleared the immediate issue.
Then I pulled the diagnostic gear anyway, because he mentioned the car had been sitting for about three weeks before this happened. The 12-volt was low from the sit, which compounded the fob read problem. Got the battery charged to a proper state and confirmed the smart system was reading the fob cleanly at normal range from each door.
His CT never left the driveway. No tow, no HOA paperwork, no scheduling a dealer appointment and waiting a week to get in. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted him just to look at it.
The moment that sticks: he said he almost just called a locksmith to break in. Would've been a whole different, worse day.
