2013 Lexus CT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A CT owner near Del Mar Village called on a weekday afternoon. She'd been parked in one of the lots off 15th Street and the car just wouldn't respond. Door handle touch unlock did nothing. She pulled the emergency insert key from inside the fob, got in, and then the push-button start showed a key-not-detected warning. She figured the fob was dead.
I asked her one question before I loaded up: when did she last change the battery. She said she hadn't, ever. The car was three years old to her.
I drove out to her location. She was standing next to the CT in the sun, turning the fob over in her hand like she was trying to read it.
I opened the fob on my tailgate. The CR1632 inside was original, oxidized on the contact points. Swapped it, reseated the clip, and closed it back up. Door handle responded immediately. Start button saw the fob. Every button worked.
She asked what was wrong with it. I told her the battery contact had probably been marginal for a while and the heat finished it off.
She'd already called the dealer before she called me. They told her to come in, no same-day appointments, and that she might need a new fob. She saved a good chunk just by getting the right diagnosis on the spot instead of booking an appointment she didn't need.
