2016 Lexus CT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Bressi Ranch resident called me on a Tuesday morning. His 2016 Lexus CT was sitting in the driveway and the dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning every time he tried to start it. He had already swapped the CR1632 himself, bought it from a drugstore the night before, and it made no difference. He was ready to call the dealer.
I pulled up to his place off Palomar Airport Road. He handed me the fob and I could already see the case had a small stress mark on the seam, like it had been opened before. Popped it apart on the hood of my van. The new battery was in there, but whoever had opened it previously had bent the positive contact just slightly. The CR1632 was rocking instead of sitting flat, making intermittent contact at best.
I reshaped the clip, reseated the battery correctly, and put the case back together. Then I walked every function: door handle touch unlock on both sides, the lock and unlock buttons, the start system response. Everything came back clean.
He asked if I needed to reprogram anything. I told him the fob was already registered to the car, the vehicle security system had no faults, it was just a mechanical contact problem inside the case. Nothing to reprogram.
He had called the dealer before calling me. They had quoted him a new fob plus labor and told him to come in, with a two-day wait for the part. He saved a good chunk by not going that route, and it was done before he finished his coffee.
