Out in Peutz Valley, a body shop called me about a 2017 Lexus CT sitting in their bay with a key problem that had already gotten worse.
The shop had finished repairs after a collision and brought in a locksmith to sort out a replacement smart key. That locksmith hit an error during programming and walked. Now the vehicle's immobilizer was sitting in a fault state, rejecting every new key registration attempt. The shop manager told me they were looking at a flatbed ride to the Lexus dealer and a multi-day wait if I couldn't sort it out.
I drove out to Alpine with my bench programming equipment. A fault state like this one isn't recoverable through the OBD port alone once the immobilizer has logged a failed enrollment sequence. I pulled the relevant module, read the memory directly, cleared the fault condition, and rebuilt the key registration from a clean state. Then I programmed the new fob, confirmed the transponder chip was enrolled, cut the emergency blade, and walked every function: door lock, unlock, trunk release, and remote start button response.
The system accepted everything on the first attempt after the reset. Took about 90 minutes on site.
The shop manager said the dealer had quoted them a multi-day turnaround just to get it on the schedule. I was done before lunch. He mentioned it almost as an afterthought, like he'd already moved on. That part I don't mind at all.
