2016 Lexus RC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman from the Santaluz side of Rancho Bernardo reached out on a Tuesday afternoon. She had one working key for her 2016 Lexus RC and wanted a spare before something went wrong. Standard thinking. She had already called the dealer and gotten a quote that made her sit down.
She found me through a neighbor's recommendation and asked if the price was real or if she was missing something. I told her to send me the VIN and I'd confirm what I needed to bring.
I met her in her driveway. The RC was sitting in the shade, which I appreciated because programming in direct sun on a black hood is its own kind of miserable. I pulled the VIN, confirmed the key type, and connected through the OBD port. The vehicle security system on these does a timed enrollment sequence, so there is a window where you wait and the tool counts down. It is not exciting to watch, but it matters. Rush it or lose connection and you start over.
New fob programmed. Emergency blade cut to the vehicle. I walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, the start button seeing both keys, and the blade in the cylinder. She tested it herself. Both keys worked.
She asked why the dealer charges so much more. Honest answer: overhead, parts markup, and the assumption that you have no other option. The tools I use run the same security handshake. The job took just under 30 minutes in her driveway. She kept her afternoon. The dealer comparison came up for about ten seconds and then we moved on.
