2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Viejas Area, I pulled up to a house off the main road and the owner was standing next to her 2012 Outlander Sport with the fob in her hand, kind of turning it over like she was waiting for it to explain itself.
She'd bought a replacement fob online. Someone told her she could program it herself. She'd watched a few videos, tried the ignition-cycle sequences people post for older key-in-ignition cars, and nothing happened. The car just sat there. She'd been at it for about an hour before she called me.
I told her right there on the driveway: that self-programming trick doesn't work on this system. The 2012 Outlander Sport smart key needs diagnostic equipment to register a new fob to the immobilizer. There's no onboard sequence for it. The videos she watched were for a different type of key on a different type of system.
I connected my tool to the OBD port, pulled up the security module, and walked through the registration procedure. Her existing fob got confirmed, the new fob got enrolled, and the whole thing took under forty minutes including me checking every button and testing the emergency blade in the door cylinder.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just to get an appointment. I was done before her lunch finished reheating. She kept the receipt. Real license number, real company name, same van that was parked in her driveway.
