2006 Porsche Boxster Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was close to midnight when I got the call. A night-shift radiologist over in San Diego Country Estates in Ramona had his only key stop working before he could leave for his shift.
His Boxster was sitting in the garage, engine off, and he had no backup. He figured he was looking at a tow and a next-day dealer appointment, which was not going to work around a hospital schedule.
I told him to stay put.
When I got there, the garage was quiet and the car looked completely untouched. He handed me what was left of his only key, the folding flip style. The blade was fine. The issue was the transponder inside the key head, which had given up after years of daily use. The car was not going to start with it no matter what.
I pulled the immobilizer pin through the OBD port, right there in his garage, cut a replacement key blade to match the vehicle, enrolled the new transponder, and tested it through a cold start. The whole thing was done before he needed to leave for his shift. He did not miss work. No tow, no dealer waiting room, no next-day callback.
He had assumed a Porsche meant dealer-only. For this generation of Boxster, that is not the case.
