It was close to midnight when I got the call. A night-shift radiologist over in San Diego Country Estates in Ramona had his only key stop working before he could leave for his shift. I pulled the immobilizer pin through the OBD port, right there in his garage, cut a replacement key blade to match the vehicle, enrolled the new transponder, and tested it through a cold start. The whole thing was done before he needed to leave for his shift. He did not miss work. No tow, no dealer waiting room, no next-day callback.
He had assumed a Porsche meant dealer-only. For this generation of Boxster, that is not the case.
