My van has everything I need to replace a 2006 Porsche Boxster key without a shop. I carry flip key blanks for the older Cayenne, car-shaped smart fob housings for Panamera, Cayenne, Macan, and 911, ID46 and ID49 chips, CR2032 batteries, emergency blades, and a cutting machine bolted to the floor. The van is the shop.
An oral surgeon in an underground parking garage in Ramona called me because a tow truck couldn't fit into the lower levels. Low ceiling, tight spiral ramp, no flatbed access. His Boxster was on sublevel 2 and the dealer told him to get the car out first. He couldn't move the car because the smart key was completely dead.
I drove into the garage and walked down with my tools. I used my VVDI2 to read the immobilizer data through OBD in VAG mode and program a replacement smart key. His fob, FCC ID , was a 3-button car-shaped smart key with push-to-start that I programmed and tested right there on sublevel 2.
His car never moved. Total was around $95 compared to $200 at the dealer, and the dealer price assumed the car could get to them.
