I was parked off Scripps Ranch Boulevard finishing paperwork when the call came in. Owner of a 2015 Boxster, one key to her name, and it had snapped. Not lost -- snapped. The blade broke off inside her key fob housing, and whoever had tried to fish it out of the ignition before calling me had made a small situation into a slightly bigger one.

I brought the right blank, the right cutting data, and the tools to extract what was left of the old blade from the cylinder without scoring the wafers. That extraction step is the part people don't think about. I got it out clean. Cut the new blade to the vehicle, tested the fit dry before seating it fully, then ran the ignition through its full range of motion. The transponder read correctly on the first cycle.
She had asked me on the phone whether she should just call the dealer in the morning. I told her she could, and that they would probably sort it eventually. She decided not to wait. By the time she would have gotten a tow arranged and a service appointment confirmed, she would have lost most of her next day.
