2014 Porsche Boxster
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2014 Porsche Boxster Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

The call came in on a weekday afternoon from a gated address in Fairbanks Ranch. The owner of a 2014 Boxster had lost his only key somewhere on the property and could not find it after two days of looking.

He had already called a Porsche dealer and was told they needed the car towed in, a few days of lead time on the key blank, and a wait for a programming appointment. He was not happy about any of that.

I drove out to Rancho Santa Fe with my cutting equipment and the right blank for the vehicle. He met me in the driveway looking like a man who had already accepted a bad week.

The job itself was not dramatic. I decoded the ignition cylinder, cut the replacement key blade to match, then enrolled the transponder chip through the OBD port so the immobilizer would accept it. Turned the key, engine started clean on the first try. I ran through it a few more times and tested the door lock to make sure everything was responding properly.

He stood there for a second, then said he had expected a much bigger ordeal. I told him that is usually the reaction when someone has spent two days imagining the dealer scenario. The car never left his driveway. Total time on site was well under an hour, and he saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote he had been sitting with.
