Her 2016 Toyota Mirai was sitting in the parking lot with zero working keys. When her husband called the dealer, they quoted a multi-day turnaround, said the car would need to be towed in, and recommended a full rekey. The estimate was well over what she expected to spend.
I got there that evening. The first thing I told her husband was the part that usually calms people down: the moment I wipe the key memory, the stolen fob is dead to the car. On the Mirai I connected through the diagnostic port, cleared the old key data, and registered two new fobs. Then I decoded the door lock and cut the emergency insert blade for each one so she had a physical backup if the fob battery ever died.
Both fobs tested clean across every function before I closed the hood. She drove home that night. The dealer's timeline was days away, with a tow at her expense. The stolen key was already erased before she pulled out of the lot.
