2018 Toyota Mirai Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Do you need to tow your 2018 Toyota Mirai to the dealer? For most Toyotas from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, no. I handle all-keys-lost right at the car. No tow, no dealer, no leaving it somewhere for days.
A customer at home in Escondido had his only fob die at 2am. His Mirai was in the driveway with push-to-start and no key the car would recognize. He assumed a tow was the only option. He started googling tow prices and dealer hours for the morning.
I told him to stay put. I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran Toyota's smart key AKL procedure. The Smart Pro reads the immobilizer seed, calculates the password, and walks through the key registration from scratch. His Smart Key, FCC ID HYQ14FBA, was a 4-button proximity fob programmed in his driveway at 2:30am.
His total was $224. The dealer would have been $403 plus a tow. There are a small number of very new Toyota platforms where the security is locked to Toyota's online system and my tools do not support AKL yet. Those go to the dealer. But for the vast majority of Toyotas on the road, I do all-keys-lost on-site every week. If your model is one of the rare exceptions, I will tell you up front.
