In Lakeside Proper, right near one of those small plaza parking lots off the main drag, a woman called me about her 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder. She said the key had been getting harder to turn for a few weeks. Some mornings it was fine. Other mornings she was sitting there working the key back and forth, hoping it would catch and turn.

I decoded the lock to get the correct bitting, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder. Before touching anything mechanical, I backed up the immobilizer data as a precaution so nothing was at risk during the repair.
The key slides in clean now and turns the first time, every time. She did not need a new cylinder. She did not need to leave the car somewhere overnight. The whole job happened in the parking lot while she waited, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
The MR2 Spyder is a small, low-slung car. Working in that cockpit-style interior takes a little patience, but the job itself was solid. I always like leaving one of these in better shape than I found it.
