2004 Volvo Xc70 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Granite Hills, I got a call from a retired professor who needed a spare key for his 2004 Volvo XC70. He'd been putting it off for over a year. He lived alone, the nearest Volvo dealer involved freeway driving he no longer felt comfortable with, and the whole thing had just sat on his to-do list getting older.
I pulled into his driveway that morning. He had one working key. My plan was to cut and program a second so he'd have a backup, and while I was at it, make sure the original was still solid.
I decoded the lock to get the correct key cut, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the transponder through the OBD port. The remote pairing followed after that. Both functions came up clean. I handed him two working keys before he'd even finished his first cup of coffee.
Before I left, I popped open the fob on the original key and showed him what a tired battery looks like versus a fresh CR2032. He'd never thought about the battery as something he'd need to check. Wrote it on a sticky note and put it on the dash.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted him for a single key, and he didn't have to get on the freeway once.
