She had just wrapped up an appointment in Alpine, out near the Viejas Area, and was walking to the parking lot with her daughter when the XC70 just sat there. No response from the fob, nothing on the door handles, and the car wasn't acknowledging the key at all.

I replaced the fob housing and electronics with a fresh unit, connected to the OBD port to register it to the car, and tested every button function plus the door handles before I called it done. The whole thing, from her first phone call to the engine idling, took under an hour.
She drove home that evening instead of leaving the XC70 in a closed lot until morning. The dealer would have been a wait, a tow, and a much bigger bill. That wasn't the story she needed on a weeknight in Alpine.
