2014 Volvo Xc90 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy out in San Diego Country Estates, the Rotary area near the main entrance. He'd already gone through one locksmith before me.
The other shop had tried to program a replacement flip key for his 2014 XC90 through the OBD port. Cranked fine, killed immediately every time. That locksmith told him the central electronics module had failed and walked away. The customer was sitting on a car that wouldn't start, a key that wasn't registered, and money already spent.
I pulled up to his place and he had that specific energy - not angry exactly, just quietly waiting to be disappointed again.
I confirmed the module wasn't bad. The problem was the previous attempt never completed key registration because the secured memory on the central electronics module hadn't been read first. On an all-keys-lost job on this platform, you can't just go OBD and hope. The module has to come out, the secured data gets read on the bench, you generate the correct key data from that dump, write it back, reinstall, then finish through the diagnostic port. It's a multi-step process, and skipping the bench read is exactly why that first attempt failed.
I pulled the module, worked it on the bench with my programmer, reinstalled it, and finished the pairing sequence. Three consecutive start tests. Clean every time. I showed him the confirmation screen on my device - key registered, system happy.
He'd already paid someone else for a job that didn't work. What he paid me was still a fraction of what the dealer quoted him. But more than the money, he just wanted it done right, and this time it was.
