I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the cracked fob's chip, which was still intact inside the broken housing. That saved significant time because I could skip a full CEM bench procedure. I extracted the blade fragment, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. Her fob, FCC ID YGOHUF8423, was a 4-button smart key that I rebuilt into a new shell with the salvaged chip and board. I showed her the chip from the cracked fob so she could see it was still good.
She went from zero keys to two in about 45 minutes. Total was around $286. A full AKL with CEM bench work would cost more, and the dealer wanted $536 either way. If you still have the broken fob, bring it. The chip inside a cracked Volvo smart key is usually salvageable.
