2016 Volvo Xc90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy from Nestor found me through YouTube before he ever had a key problem. He watched a Volvo smart key video, saw the actual module process on screen, and saved my number. When his 2016 XC90 fob started acting up months later, he already knew what the job looked like.
The symptoms were classic mid-failure: fine at close range, dead from more than a few feet. He had been living with it by holding the fob near the door handle, which works until it does not. By the time he called, the car had already hit him with a key-not-detected warning twice.
I pulled up to the lot in Nestor with the fob shell, a fresh transponder chip, and the diagnostic gear. Checked the original fob first -- battery was reading low and one contact had a faint film of corrosion on it. Cleaned it, seated a new CR2032, and retested. Range came back a little, but not fully. That told me the fob itself had degraded, which happens on these when moisture gets in through a cracked shell seam. Time for a replacement.
Programmed the new fob to the vehicle, walked every button, ran three clean start cycles, and tested range from across the parking lot. Everything was solid.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a multi-day turnaround because the fob would need to be ordered. I was done that afternoon, at his vehicle, for a fraction of what they wanted.
