Your 2020 Mazda CX-5 uses a smart key. On the push-to-start models, that means a fob housing with 4 buttons, a CR2025 battery powering the wireless signal, and an emergency metal blade tucked inside for backup entry. There's also a transponder chip the car needs to detect before the engine will start.
A stay-at-home dad at his duplex driveway near Mandalay State Beach had a CX-5 with a cracked smart fob. The housing had split from being dropped on the concrete and the buttons were barely attached. The dealer told him the only option was a full new fob at 474. What they didn't mention is that the smart key electronics inside were still perfectly fine.
I used my ACDP to read the keyless module data as a backup, then moved his working electronics into a fresh fob housing, replaced the dying CR2025 battery, and verified every button plus push-to-start. His fob, FCC ID WAZSKE11D01, worked like new.
He paid 276 for the shell swap and battery. Dealer wanted 474 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was broken.
