2023 Mazda CX-5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was in the South Winds area on a Tuesday morning when a woman called about her 2023 CX-5. She ran a small preschool nearby, first parents were due at seven, and her morning had already gone sideways.

The fob had been flaky all week. Some days it worked fine. Other days the car would throw a key-not-detected warning and she had to hold the fob right up near the start button to coax it into recognizing her. She said it felt like the car was "deciding" whether to cooperate. She had already called the dealer. Four days out, plus a tow because she was not comfortable driving it.

I pulled into the lot while things were still quiet. Opened the fob on the hood. CR2025 was seated, but the battery contact had a slight bow to it, just enough to lose connection when the fob got jostled in her bag. The contact was not corroded, just slightly bent away from the cell face. I straightened it, reseated the battery, and tested every function: passive door detection at both handles, the start button at normal range, and all four buttons.

Then I walked around the car and did it again, because intermittent problems have a way of coming back the moment you declare victory.

Everything held. She did not need a new fob, she did not need to wait four days, and she did not need a tow. She was unlocking classrooms before the first car pulled into the lot.

The dealer comparison was not even on her mind by the end. It was just: problem gone, day saved.
