2016 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy over at Oxnard Auto Center who does freelance graphic design. He was at the smoothie spot between jobs when his only smart key started acting up. Short range on the unlock, then the push button wouldn't respond at all unless he held the fob right against the steering column badge. He figured the whole system was failing.
He had already called the Mazda dealer. They told him to tow the car in and quoted him parts, labor, and a programming fee that added up fast. A friend who'd used me before sent him my number instead.
I drove out with my Smart Pro and the WAZSKE13D01 blank already in the kit. Read the immobilizer PIN through the OBD port on his CX-5, waited through the security handshake, and registered a fresh smart key to the keyless module. His original fob turned out to just need a new CR2025. The battery contacts looked fine, the cell was just spent.
So now he has two working fobs. I tested both on every door handle, the liftgate button, and the push-to-start. Walked around the car twice hitting lock and unlock from different distances. He stood there watching the mirrors fold and unfold like he'd never noticed they did that.
Whole thing took about 30 minutes, security countdown included. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, done in a parking lot while he finished his smoothie.
