2022 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy called me from the parking structure near The Collection on a Tuesday midday. He had driven over on his lunch break, and somewhere between the restaurant and the car he realized his only fob was gone. Not at the table, not in his jacket. Gone.
He had already called the Mazda dealer. They told him to tow it in, expect it to sit until late afternoon, and they quoted him the job in pieces: the fob itself, a programming labor charge, a shop fee. He said the total landed close to what some people spend on a car payment. He asked me if I could actually do it where the car was sitting.
I told him yes and drove to The Collection.
The CX-5 was in the structure, engine off, no working key anywhere near it. I verified ownership at the car, confirmed the VIN, and got into the all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port. On this system, once enrollment starts, the immobilizer holds a timed security countdown before it accepts the new fob. That wait is built in and non-negotiable. I have seen techs get impatient and pull the tool, which just resets the clock. You sit with it.
When the system cleared, I registered the new fob, verified all four buttons, and had him test it himself before I packed up. He was back at his lunch table before his food got cold.
The dealer quote would have added a tow on top of everything else. That was the part that got him. He did not need a tow. He just needed someone to come to the car.
