2025 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Silver Strand in Oxnard sits right on the water, and the salt air out there does things to car key housings over time. I already knew that when the call came in.
The owner had a 2025 CX-5 and a fob that had started acting up. The housing hadn't cracked clean, but the seam had separated enough that moisture got in. He was getting a key-not-detected warning on the dash intermittently, and twice that week the push-button start had made him sit there for an extra few seconds before the car agreed to wake up. He'd already swapped the battery, which was the right instinct. Still happened.
I pulled up to his driveway on a Tuesday afternoon. Ran diagnostics, checked the fob signal, and confirmed the fob itself was degraded. The moisture intrusion had done its job quietly. Getting a replacement paired on a current CX-5 means going through the OBD port with proper software, and the Mazda immobilizer system has a built-in wait cycle baked into the process. You can't rush it. I ran the sequence, waited it out, and registered the new fob to the vehicle.
Then I walked every function. Touch unlock on both front handles, the start button, each button on the fob, lock confirmation. Everything live, right there in the driveway.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just for an appointment. I was done before his kid got home from school.
