Out in Victoria Estates in Oxnard, I got a call from a guy who'd been using his CX-5's emergency blade for three days just to get in and out of the car. He was doing the deadlift-toddler-and-groceries routine out of a duplex driveway, and somewhere in there the fob hit the concrete face-down.

Then I walked every function. Lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, push to start from the driver's seat with the fob in the cupholder to check detection range. Doors, start, everything responding the way it should.
He'd been three days without a working fob over a piece of plastic. The dealer quote was for a whole new fob and programming. What he actually needed was a shell and a battery, done in the driveway in under an hour. He saved a good chunk.
