2020 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near Mandalay State Beach in Oxnard called me about his 2020 CX-5. His smart key housing had cracked down the seam after he dropped it on the driveway. The buttons were hanging on by nothing, and he had the whole thing wrapped in tape just to keep it in one piece.
Dealer told him the only fix was a brand-new fob, programmed and cut. Weeks out for the part, then a second appointment to program it.
I got to his duplex and looked at the fob on his kitchen counter. The WAZSKE11D01 board inside was fine. No corrosion, no cracked solder joints on the 315 MHz transmitter, battery contacts still clean. The problem was just plastic.
I used my ACDP to back up the keyless module data from the BCM as a safety net, then pulled the working board and transponder out of the broken shell and seated them into a new aftermarket housing. Fresh CR2025, reassembled with the emergency insert blade, and buttoned it up.
Walked out to the CX-5 and tested everything. Door handle proximity unlock on all four doors. Lock button on both front handles. All four fob buttons. Push-button start with the fob in my pocket, then again with it in the center console. Everything responded clean.
He stood there looking at the taped-up shell on the counter, then at the rebuilt fob in his hand. Didn't say much. Just nodded.
The whole visit took about 25 minutes. He kept a working key and saved a good chunk over the dealer route.
