1997 Audi S4 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A homeowner in the Bayside area of Imperial Beach called me about her 1997 Audi S4. She had one key left, it was her daily driver, and she wanted a spare before the inevitable happened. Reasonable. I hear that call a lot and I respect the people who plan ahead instead of waiting for a crisis.
What she did not mention until I got there was that the original key was bent. Not dramatically, just enough that it had been catching slightly in the door lock for a few months. She had been jiggling it. You could see the wear pattern on the blade.
I decoded the key on the spot rather than copying the worn profile, cut a fresh blade to the correct specification, and tested it in both the door lock and the ignition before I called it done. Clean entry, smooth turn. Then I showed her what the bent original looked like next to the new one side by side. She said she had no idea it had gotten that bad.
The whole job happened in her driveway. She did not have to arrange a tow or work around a service department schedule. Getting a spare cut at the dealer would have meant an appointment, a wait, and a bill that reflected the address on the building. She saved a good chunk and had the spare in hand the same afternoon.
