I got a call from a guy in West Santee, over near the older industrial pocket off Prospect Avenue. He was in a parking structure attached to his office building and his 2001 Audi S4 wasn't going anywhere. The flip key blade had physically snapped at the hinge pivot, which happens on these after enough years of being grabbed wrong out of a tight pocket. Then connected to the OBD port, read the immobilizer data, and enrolled the transponder so the car would actually start and not just crank.
I tested every button, confirmed the remote synced, started the car twice. He drove out of that garage about forty-five minutes after I arrived. The dealer was still waiting on a callback.
He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him over the phone, not including labor to extract the broken blade. He paid a fraction of that, and I came to him.
