Out in the Richland area of San Marcos, I got a call from a woman running an art gallery. Saturday afternoon, between showings, and her 2003 Audi S4 was sitting in the lot not going anywhere.
A friend had told her Audi keys were "locked to the dealer system" and nobody else could touch them. She half-believed it. She called me anyway, mostly out of frustration.

The dealer had quoted her a weekday appointment, a wait on parts, and a number that made her wince. I was done before her next showing started. The car doesn't know where the key was programmed. The security handshake is the same either way.
