2020 BMW X3 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A retired engineer out in the Viejas Area had been sitting on the idea of a spare key for two years. He knew he needed one.
He just kept putting it off. The nearest BMW dealer was a good thirty minutes away, freeway the whole route, and he had stopped driving freeways after he retired. One trip to get a key quoted, another trip to drop the car, maybe a third to pick it up. That math never felt worth it.
He found me online and called one morning figuring I would tell him I could not come that far out. I told him Alpine was fine and asked when he wanted to do it.
I pulled up to his place before ten. His 2020 X3 was parked in the garage, one working fob, no spare. He stood nearby watching while I connected my diagnostic equipment and worked through the body control module process: back it up, program the new key into the system, restore everything cleanly. The fob the draft described as something else is actually the current-generation smart key for this vehicle, with the factory FCC ID printed right on the back. I paired it up, ran through all four buttons, confirmed the door handles and the start function were reading the new fob correctly.
He had two working keys before noon and never left his property.
He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him for a single key. I had already done two for well under that. He said he wished he had made the call two years ago instead of just living with one key.
