1995 Cadillac Deville
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1995 Cadillac Deville Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy up in Mt. Helix, the hilly part of La Mesa where the driveways are long and the roads curve back on themselves. He had a 1995 Cadillac DeVille sitting at the top of his property.

Single key, lived on his keyring for years, finally snapped at the bow right where the metal had been stressed over and over from the weight of other keys hanging off it.

He figured it would be simple. It is a 30-year-old car. No push-button start, no fob, no proximity antenna. He was right that it is simple, but simple and easy are not the same thing when the only key is in two pieces and the car has not moved in a while.

I drove up to Mt. Helix with my decoder and a blank. The cylinder had some wear, which is normal for a car this age. Rather than trace the broken key, I decoded the lock directly so the new cut matched what the cylinder actually wanted, not what the worn key had trained it to accept.

Cut it on site, tested it in the door lock, then the ignition. Turned clean. He mentioned a dealer had told him they might need to order a blank and have him tow it in. That was the whole comparison.

Mechanical key job. No programming, no waiting, no tow. Done in the driveway.
