1996 Cadillac Deville
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1996 DeVille?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct key blank for your DeVille and give you a price before I head out. When I arrive, I either decode the lock or pull the key code to cut a replacement that matches your ignition and door locks. The key gets cut in the van, tested in the car, and handed to you. The whole job happens next to your vehicle. No tow, no waiting room.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to verify the correct cut for your specific vehicle. Same documentation any reputable locksmith or dealer would ask for, but I verify it on site in a few minutes. If the name on your registration matches your ID, you're good to go.

Q: My 1996 DeVille key turns but the steering wheel lock is stuck and won't release. Is that a key problem?

Usually it's a combination of two things: a worn key and a loaded steering column. The steering wheel lock on these engages when you park with the wheels turned, putting side pressure on the lock pin. When you go to start it, the ignition cylinder is fighting that pressure at the same time.

Q: Can a locksmith make a key if I've lost the only one and there's no key to copy from?

Yes. For a 1996 DeVille, a key can be made by decoding the lock cylinder directly or by pulling the key code from the VIN through a bitting reference. No original key needed. That's a standard locksmith job, not a dealer-only situation.

1996 Cadillac Deville Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in Berry Park, Imperial Beach. He'd been staying nearby and locked his only key inside the 1996 DeVille. The car was just sitting there in a lot, completely accessible from the outside, completely shut out from the inside.

He'd already called a big-name locksmith chain. They quoted him a wait time he didn't have and a price he wasn't happy about. Then he found me.

I pulled up with the van, decoded the door lock right there on site, and cut a replacement key to match. The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes from the time I got out of the van. No tow, no dealer, no waiting until the next morning for a service bay to open up.

He held the new key, unlocked the door himself, and just said "that's it?" That's it. A mechanical key for a 1996 DeVille is not a complicated job when you have the right tools and know what you're doing. The dealer alternative would've meant a tow and a day of waiting, for something I handled in a parking lot before dinner.

Cadillac Deville Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1996 Cadillac DeVille somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to you. Whether your DeVille is sitting in your driveway, a parking lot, or somewhere in Berry Park, Imperial Beach, I bring everything needed to cut a working key on site. Dealers want the car in their service bay, which means a tow if you're locked out or down to zero keys. That adds time and cost before they even look at the car. I handle it right where the vehicle sits.
