2004 Dodge Neon Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Fernbrook, Ramona called me on a Tuesday morning. Said he had one key left for his 2004 Dodge Neon and it snapped in the door lock the night before. Not in the ignition, just the door. He got inside, used the ignition with the stub of the blade still attached to the chip head, but he knew that wasn't going to last.
He had already called the dealer and didn't love what he heard. They told him to tow it in. The car was running fine. It started every morning. Towing a running car to a dealer for a key felt wrong to him, and it is wrong. That is exactly the kind of job a mobile locksmith exists for.
I came to him. Brought the key blank, cut it to his vehicle on site, and used my programmer through the OBD port to enroll the transponder chip. The Neon's immobilizer from this era communicates through a ring antenna around the ignition cylinder. New key goes in, the antenna reads the chip, the system clears it to start.
He still had the broken key, so I was also able to extract the blade remnant from the door lock while I was there. Two problems, one visit.
The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait, and spending more. He paid a fraction of that, standing in his own driveway.
