Out in The Cays, the parking near those waterfront homes is tight and everything sits in the salt air. A guy called me about his 1998 Ranger. His spare remote had stopped triggering the locks, and then the main fob started going intermittent. Cleaned the contacts, straightened the tab on the spare, seated both batteries properly, and then we went through the programming sequence to make sure both fobs were registered to the truck. Tested lock, unlock, and panic on both. Everything came back.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and the truck never left the lot.
