I got a call from a woman just off the Spring Valley Border in Lemon Grove. Her 2007 Ranger was sitting in the driveway running fine, but the key head had split at the pivot point. The blade was flopping loose, and she'd been holding the two halves together with a rubber band to get it to turn in the ignition. She said she'd been doing it for about two weeks.

I swapped the electronics into a fresh shell on the hood of my van, seated the board, reconnected the battery, and cut a new blade to match her lock. Took about twenty minutes. Buttons worked, remote range was good, truck started on the first try.
She mentioned the dealer wanted her to schedule it out two days, wait for a blank to come in, and leave the truck for a full morning. That was the last thing she needed. She had a working key in her hand before lunch, same driveway, no tow required.
