If a fresh CR2032 doesn't bring the buttons back, open the key head and check the battery contacts. A slightly bent clip or mild corrosion on the contact points can break the circuit even with a good battery seated. If the contacts look fine and the buttons still don't work, the remote circuit itself may be the issue and the fob needs to be looked at on the bench. That's a less common failure on these, but it does happen.
