2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach when a woman walked up and asked if I was the locksmith. She had a 2003 Santa Fe and her remote had not worked in weeks. She was still getting into the car fine with the key, but she missed being able to pop the locks from across the parking lot, especially with groceries.

She had already swapped a CR2032. That was the right first move, but it did not fix it.

I checked the battery contacts inside the fob. They looked clean enough, but the positive clip had just a touch of spring tension lost in it. Not enough to hold a solid connection when the fob flexed in a pocket. I re-tensioned the clip, re-seated the battery, and closed it back up.

Then we tested range. Better, but not quite where it should be. On a 2003, the remote needs to be cycled back into the vehicle's receiver after certain battery events. I walked her through the re-pairing sequence right there in the lot. Took maybe five minutes total.

The remote clicked her doors from halfway down the block. She stood there and clicked it a few more times just to confirm.

She mentioned she had called the dealer earlier that week. They quoted her for a new fob plus programming time. She saved a good chunk coming to me instead, and she did not have to leave Fletcher Cove to do it.
