2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy over in Millenia, Chula Vista. His 2008 Santa Fe was sitting in the parking lot of his apartment complex.
He had one key, used it for years, and that morning it just stopped working. Car cranked but died immediately every time. He thought it was a fuel issue at first, maybe a pump. Spent two days going back and forth with a shop before someone mentioned the immobilizer.
By the time I pulled up, he had already looked up what a transponder key was and was halfway convinced he needed to tow it to the dealer.
I connected to the OBD port and pulled the PIN from the immobilizer. Cut a replacement key blade to match his door lock, programmed the transponder chip to the vehicle. Then I handed him the key and watched him start it himself. First try, clean start, no stall.
He asked me what was wrong with the old key. Honestly, the chip inside the head had likely failed. It happens on keys this age, especially ones that have been on a heavy keyring for fifteen years, dropped on concrete a few times, maybe sat in a hot car summer after summer. The chip does not last forever.
He had already called the dealer before he called me. They wanted him towed in, wanted a few days, and the number they quoted him was a lot. He paid a fraction of that and did not move the car once.
The whole job was done in the lot, about forty minutes start to finish.
