1998 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Up in Mt. Helix, the streets wind and the driveways are steep, and I pulled up to a house where a 1998 Hyundai Tiburon was sitting in the driveway with its owner standing next to it looking frustrated.
He had one key. The blade was worn down enough that the ignition was getting sticky, and the remote buttons on the head had stopped responding weeks ago. He figured he would deal with it later. Then later arrived, the key started binding on the way out one morning, and he decided not to push his luck anymore.
The door lock was in better shape than the ignition. I decoded the cut from the door side where the wafers were still clean, which gave me what I needed without touching the ignition at all. Cut the new blade, matched it to the lock profile, and it turned the ignition smooth on the first try.
The remote portion of the head needed pairing to the vehicle. These late-90s systems are not complicated, and the procedure came together without drama. He tested the lock and unlock buttons himself, standing there in the driveway with the key in his hand.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait and a number that made him go looking online instead. I didn't ask what the number was. He saved a good chunk, and he had a working key before I backed out of his driveway.
