2000 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman in Richland, San Marcos, at about 7:45 in the morning. She worked through a staffing agency and was sitting in a parking lot waiting on her assignment.
Her 2000 Hyundai Tiburon remote head key had stopped responding overnight. The car wouldn't unlock, and when she finally got in manually, it wouldn't start. She had to be at a job site before 8:30 or lose the placement entirely.
I was pulling into that lot inside of 20 minutes.
On a 2000 Tiburon, the remote and the transponder are in the same housing, so when something goes wrong you have to figure out which half failed. I decoded her lock mechanically, got in, and checked the key against the ignition. The transponder side had lost its pairing with the immobilizer, which on a car this age is not unusual, especially if the key had been dropped hard or sat near something that disrupted it.
I cut a replacement key blade to the vehicle, programmed the transponder to the immobilizer, and tested the remote functions. The whole thing took about 25 minutes on site.
She made it to the job site. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait, and a day missed that she could not afford.
