2003 Hyundai Tiburon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths are a real problem. The pattern is always the same: a low number over the phone, then a completely different number once they have your car open. Key emergencies are stressful, and that stress gets used against people. One common version is a quote that doesn't include "programming fees" until after the fact, and owners end up paying three or four times what they expected.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. On a 2003 Tiburon remote head key, there are two things that have to work: the transponder enrollment so the immobilizer releases and the car actually starts, and the remote functions so the doors respond. We handle both, and we test every function before we close up and leave. The blade gets cut to your vehicle, not to a generic spec. We don't hand you a key and drive off.

Q: My 2003 Tiburon starts fine but the remote buttons on the key do nothing. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On a remote head key, the transponder and the remote transmitter are in the same unit but they operate independently. If the car starts normally, the transponder side is fine. Dead or weak remote buttons usually point to one of three things: the battery in the key head needs replacement, the remote lost its sync with the receiver and needs to be re-paired, or the button contacts inside the shell have worn out. Start with the battery.

Q: I bought a replacement remote head key online for my 2003 Tiburon. Can I program it myself?

The remote sync on some older vehicles has an onboard procedure. Whether that applies to your specific Tiburon setup depends on the configuration, and forum results on this are genuinely mixed. The transponder side, though, is a different matter entirely. Getting the immobilizer to accept a new chip requires programming equipment. If you try the key and the car cranks but won't run, that's the transponder not being recognized. Bring the key you bought.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Saturday night down at Fletcher Cove, and the parking area near the beach was still half-full when I pulled up.

A couple had walked back to their car and the remote head key wasn't doing anything. No lock, no unlock, nothing. They tried the key in the door, got in manually, and then it got worse: the car cranked but wouldn't start. They had no idea the transponder and the remote were both living in that same key head, and that the remote dying was just the visible part of the problem.

They found me online, called, and I was there in under fifteen minutes with the right blank already in a labeled drawer behind my seat. I cut the blade to their vehicle, programmed the transponder so the immobilizer would recognize it, then synced the remote functions. First turn of the key, the car started. Doors locked and unlocked cleanly.

The moment it fired up, the guy just sat there for a second like he was making sure it was real. His partner was already looking up directions home.

They didn't lose the weekend. The dealer would have meant leaving the car in that lot until Monday, then waiting for a parts order on top of that. When you stock the right blanks and carry the right tools, a Saturday night call is the same job as a Tuesday afternoon.

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified.
