2019 Lincoln MKT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman parked in a church lot out in West Santee. She opened with: "I already paid someone to fix this."
The story was familiar. Another locksmith had come out, made a replacement smart key for her 2019 Lincoln MKT, took her money, and left. The car would start, run for about two seconds, and then cut out. She'd been trying to get answers for three days. The first guy told her the immobilizer module had gone bad and that she needed the dealer.
She didn't need the dealer.
What had happened was the key data got written into a temporary state during the learn sequence and never committed to permanent memory. It's a timing thing. The vehicle's security system runs a timed access window during enrollment, and if the tool disconnects or the sequence gets rushed, the car accepts the key just long enough to fool you into thinking it worked. Then the engine dies on its second startup attempt. Classic incomplete registration.
I connected through the OBD port, cleared the failed key data entirely, and ran a clean enrollment with the full security timer allowed to complete. Once the new fob was written correctly, the theft indicator light on the dash proved out the way it should: on at key-in, off once the vehicle recognized the key as legitimate. I walked her through what that light pattern means so she'd know how to read it herself next time.
The car started clean. Stayed running. She tested it twice before she let herself believe it.
She paid me a fraction of what the dealer quoted her. And she didn't have to pay twice to get it right.
