2008 Lincoln MKX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from someone over in the Seacoast neighborhood in Imperial Beach. He was parked near the water, and his remote head key had gotten to the point where the lock and unlock buttons were completely unresponsive. The car still started, but he had been walking up and locking manually through the door for two weeks before he finally reached out.
When I pulled up, he handed me the key and I could see the fob housing had a small crack along the seam near the battery compartment. That kind of crack lets moisture and salt air work in over time, and this close to the ocean it happens faster than most people expect. The CR2032 inside was corroded at one terminal contact.
I replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts, and reseated everything. Two buttons came back right away. The other three were still dead, which told me the fob itself had taken damage beyond just the battery. I swapped it to a replacement shell with a fresh battery, reprogrammed the key to the vehicle using my diagnostic equipment, and walked every button including the trunk release. All five working, remote start confirmed absent on this trim, range tested from across the parking area.
He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier in the week. They told him to tow it in, quoted him the job as a multi-hour appointment, and said earliest availability was four days out. I was done in his parking spot in under an hour. That part almost never surprises people, but it still gets them every time.
