2008 Lincoln MKZ Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A third-shift security guard in Downtown National City called me close to midnight. His 2008 MKZ was sitting in the driveway and he had no working key.
Not lost, the key had just stopped being recognized. He had tried the usual stuff, new battery in the fob, holding it close to the ignition area, nothing. The car would crank but the immobilizer was killing it right after start. He figured a tow to the dealer was the only move and was already dreading the wait.
I told him to stay where he was.
I pulled up to his driveway with my tools, connected to the OBD port, and started the all-keys-lost sequence. The immobilizer has timed security cycles built in, so part of the job is just waiting through them. There is no shortcut. I used that time to cut the new blade to his vehicle and get everything staged. When the system came out of the last cycle, I registered the new remote head key and tested it, ignition, lock, unlock, all of it, right there under his porch light.
He asked me if Lincoln keys were always this much trouble. I told him the midnight part was just the job. The key itself is a known quantity.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer would have charged, and he kept his car out of a tow rotation entirely.
