2009 Lincoln MKZ
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Lincoln MKZ Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy came to me in Downtown Lemon Grove, not a ski lot, not a resort - just a parking lot off Broadway where his 2009 MKZ had been sitting dead for two days. He had one key, and it had gotten bent somehow.

Not snapped, just enough warp that the blade would not go into the ignition cylinder cleanly. He had been forcing it. The last attempt left a tiny fragment of metal inside the cylinder, and now nothing was going in at all.

He figured he needed a new ignition. He had already called the dealer, who agreed with him.

I pulled the fragment, checked the cylinder, and it was fine. Then I decoded the lock and cut a new key blade on site. Programmed the transponder and the remote functions. Tested every button. Tested the start. Took about forty minutes total, and he watched the whole thing from a folding chair he pulled out of his trunk.

The dealer route would have had him towing it in, waiting a few days for parts, and paying for a cylinder he did not need. He saved a good chunk and kept his afternoon.
