2017 Lincoln MKZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A traveling consultant was staying at a hotel off Campo Road in the Casa de Oro part of La Mesa when her only MKZ fob stopped responding. Not intermittent, not slow. Just done. She tried the door handle, nothing. She called the front desk, they gave her the Lincoln dealer's number, and the dealer told her to arrange a tow and come in the next afternoon.
She didn't want to spend half her trip waiting in a dealership lobby, so she found me online.
I met her in the hotel parking lot that same evening. She still had the fob in her hand when I pulled up, clicking it out of habit. I asked when she'd last changed the battery. She hadn't, ever. The car was a couple of years old when she got it. I swapped in a fresh CR2450 right there, and the fob lit back up. Doors unlocked. She looked at me like I'd done something complicated.
I ran a quick check through the OBD port anyway to confirm the fob was still properly registered and the immobilizer wasn't showing any stored faults. Everything was clean. The existing fob just needed a battery.
She asked what she owed me. I told her. She said the dealer quoted her a full replacement plus the tow. She saved a good chunk just by making one phone call before she called the tow company.
Not every job is a dramatic all-keys-lost situation. Sometimes it's a CR2450 and fifteen minutes in a parking lot. I'm fine with that.
