2018 Lincoln MKZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a parking garage off Palm Avenue in Downtown IB that gets real heat in the afternoon. A property manager kept his 2018 MKZ there during his shift. One day he walked out, fob in hand, and the car just sat there. No click, no lights, nothing. The other fob was at home.
He called the Lincoln dealer. They quoted him a replacement smart key, then added a programming fee on top, then mentioned shop supplies. When he asked about getting the car there without a working key, they threw in a tow estimate that made the whole thing feel like a bad joke. He found me instead.
I pulled into the garage, set up at the car, and connected to the OBD port under the dash. The 2018 MKZ uses the vehicle's body control module to authenticate new fobs, and once the security handshake clears through the diagnostic interface, registering a new key is a clean process. The existing fob got confirmed and the new one enrolled. Both work now. I ran every button, checked proximity range walking away from the car in both directions, and made sure the start function read the fob before I packed up.
He was back inside finishing a call before I left the garage. The dealer comparison came up at the end almost as an aside -- he'd already moved on. He just said he saved a good chunk and didn't have to tow anything.
