2014 Lincoln MKZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A salesman at a lot just off the main strip near Old Town National City called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had lost his only smart fob somewhere between a client walkthrough and the back office. The 2014 MKZ was sitting in the lot, completely inaccessible, and he had already called the Lincoln dealer. They told him to tow it in.
He did not want to tow a car off a sales lot in the middle of a workday. That is a bad look.
I drove out, got into the vehicle mechanically using my slim jim tools, and confirmed the VIN against his registration right there on the door jamb. Then I pulled the key blank that matches this MKZ, cut it to the vehicle, and ran the pairing sequence through the OBD port using my diagnostic equipment. The immobilizer on this generation has a timed security access window built into the process, so there is a countdown you just have to sit through. Takes the time it takes.
Whole job was done in about 45 minutes. He had a working smart fob and a car he could move.
He mentioned what the dealer quoted. I told him what I charged. He got quiet for a second and then laughed. He saved a good chunk, and the MKZ never left the lot.
