I pulled up to a parking lot off Moonlight Beach on a Tuesday afternoon. The owner had a 1998 Lincoln Town Car sitting there and a look on his face like he had already had a long day before I arrived.
He had bought a replacement key blank online, got it cut at a hardware store, and it turned in the ignition just fine. Car cranked, started, ran for about two seconds, then died. He tried it four or five more times thinking it would sort itself out. It did not. Cut a proper replacement key, got it enrolled in the immobilizer, cranked the car, and it idled like nothing had ever been wrong.
He mentioned the dealer had told him they would need the car towed in and could not give him a timeline on parts. That detail came up almost as an aside. By that point we were already done.
