2003 Lincoln Town Car Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Scripps Ranch called me about his 2003 Town Car that he said had an electrical gremlin. It would start fine in the morning and then by that evening the theft light would flash during cranking and the engine would quit right after catching.

He had already been to another locksmith a couple weeks before. That locksmith had made him a replacement key that seemed to work at first, but the problems crept in after a few days of normal use. The owner figured it was something in the car itself.

I got out to him in Scripps Ranch and the first thing I did was test both keys. His original worn key still had the correct transponder in it. The replacement the other locksmith cut had the wrong chip generation inside. Some chips in that era will pass an initial programming check but fail when the immobilizer runs its deeper verification over repeated start cycles. That is exactly what was happening.

I programmed a new key with the correct transponder chip matched to this generation of Town Car. Took about twenty minutes on site, tested through several cycles, and the theft light stayed off through all of them.

He had already paid the other locksmith once. He was not happy about paying again. I get it. The thing is, the difference between a key that works for a week and one that works for years is what is inside it, not what it looks like. His old key and the bad replacement looked identical from the outside.
